Step 2 - Using FDISK - Option 3. Delete DOS Partition or Logical DOS Drive
Option 3 - Delete DOS Partition or Logical DOS Drive

Deleting a partition is the only way to alter the size of another partition using FDISK.

Unfortunately if you need to change the size of your Primary bootable partition using FDISK then you have to delete ALL of your logical drives before creating the new Primary bootable partition - Bummer!

Fortunately there is an answer - although you will have to buy it - You can use a utility such as 'Partition Magic' if you want to alter the size of partitions without destroying data on other partitions.

Be aware that you must delete ALL the logical drives in an extended partition before you delete the extended partition itself.

Choose the type of partition that you want to delete or select the 'delete logical drive' option from the menu.

1. Delete Primary DOS Partition
2. Delete Extended DOS Partition
3. Delete Logical DOS Drive(s) in the Extended DOS Partition
4. Delete Non-DOS Partition

1. Delete Primary DOS Partition

Select the number of the Primary DOS Partition that you want to delete from the menu. In this example there is only one Primary Partition.

FDISK will ask you to enter the volume label (Name) of the drive you have selected for deletion.
Enter the volume label and press [ENTER].

You will be asked for final confirmation before the deletion iss carried out.

Once you have confirmed that you want to delete the Primary DOS Partition, FDISK will delete it and show you a summary of the operation.

Press 'Escape' to continue.
