Hardware Icon Physically Installing New Hardware

<< Previous |   Index  |   Next >>       Page 2 of 11

Introduction

This article explains how to physically install new hardware into your computer.

It explains how to open up your PC, the precautions you need to take and the problems you can encounter.

This article is primarily concerned with the physical installation of new hardware rather than the specific setting up of hardware devices.

Some, if not all, hardware has specific set up and configuration procedures which must be followed in order to make the unit function properly.
Although this article touches on these procedures without going into detail, it is impossible to cover all the many different devices and their individual requirements.

What you will need :-

  • Small Phillips screwdriver
  • Pliers (Preferably needle nosed)
  • Grounding strap
  • Additional cables (Normally provided with the hardware)
  • Spare slots/bays in your computer case
  • Spare power connector (For a new drive) A Y-Splitter can be purchased which will split one power connector into two if you do not have a spare connector.
