Email IconSetting Up Email Software

<< Previous |   Index  |   Next >>       Page 2 of 6

Introduction

This article explains how to set up your email software to send and receive email.
I use Microsoft Outlook Express version 5.0 as an example, however the principles are basically the same for most email software.

When using the 'Internet Connection Wizard' you are asked to set up your internet connection in addition to your email account. If you simply want to add a new or additional email account, follow the instructions below.

Before you start

Normally you will need four or five pieces of information to set up an email account -

  • POP3 server name i.e. 'mail.yourisp.com'
  • SMTP server name i.e. 'smtp.yourisp.com'
  • Userid
  • Password
  • Email address i.e. you@yourisp.com
(Some ISP's define your userid as your email address)

If you have this information then you are ready to start, otherwise you will need to obtain this information from your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to completely set up your email account. You can partially set up your software if you only have some of this information, however you will probably have to alter the information at a later date if you do.

We will be using the Internet Connection Wizard for this exercise, however the principles remain the same for most email software set up.
