Hardware Icon Resolving Hardware Conflicts

Identifying the resources in use

To find out which resources are in use by the devices attached to your system, look in the System Device Manager.
Familiarize yourself with the System Device Manager page - you are going to visit it many, many times.

In Win9x - (Right click 'My Computer', click 'Properties', click 'Device Manager' tab).

This example uses Win9x Device Manager as an example (See below)

Double click the 'Computer' icon in this window to see how resources have been allocated at a glance.

In the example below you can clearly see the REALmagic Hollywood Plus card sharing IRQ 5 with the Sound card.

It's a good idea to note which resources are being used by the devices in your system before you add new hardware.

You can then refer to the original list to identify if the operating system has changed any of them when the new device was added.
